Carved in mirror image, each plaque worked in reticulation with a sinuous dragon leaping amidst ruyi scrolls within a foliate cartouche, surrounded by further scrolls, the corners with lotus blooms, a bird and a bat

Lot Essay

Plaques such as these were used on belts, and a set carved in a similar style with dragons amidst foliate scrolls, is illustrated in Jadeware (II), The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum, Hong Kong, 1995, pl. 166. Compare also to seven plaques, variously decorated with dragons and animals in landscape, sold in these Rooms, Important Jade Carvings from a Private Collection, 26 April 2004, lot 1264.
