Wu Hufan (1894-1968) was an influential early 20th century artist, cf. Zhongguo meishu jiarenming cidian, Shanghai renmin meishu chubanshe, 2003, p. 301. Xiya is identified as the sobriquet for Jin Shaofang who was Wu Hufan's contemporary, and an accomplished bamboo carver, whose work offered in the present sale as lot 1302 is also from the same Dexinshuwu Collection.
