The slightly compressed rounded body cast to each side with a circular medallion enclosing the Arabic script, subhan allah, 'Praise to God', against a fishroe-ground, the mark cast in relief within a countersunk square to the base

Bronzes bearing Zhengde marks are extremely rare, however another example was included in the exhibition catalogue Emperor, Scholar, Artisan, Monk, Sydney L. Moss Ltd., London, 1984, no. 118, where the author, Paul Moss, discusses this particular group of bronzes with Arabic inscriptions on p. 263.
