A PAIR OF JADEITE 'MAGNOLIA' VASES
QING DYNASTY, 19TH CENTURY

Each irregular boulder intricately carved in openwork as sprays of magnolia and peony, the large central magnolia blossom forming the receptacle of the vase, surrounded by smaller flowers and curling leaves, detailed with a cricket perched on a flower and a pheasant standing on the rocky ground, the material of mottled tones of ice- and apple-green with some black inclusions, carved to enhance the overall design, the vases with metal liners and mounted on gilt-wood stands carved in openwork with gnarled prunus branches (old breaks restuck)
