Lot Essay

This 'picturesque' pattern of fire-dog 'chenets', with a youthful drummer and his music-making companion playing the triangles, corresponds to chenets sold anonymously, Christies, London, 14 May 1970 lot 67; and at Sotheby's, London, 10 December 1993 lot 162.
Related chenets, with torch-bearing hymen figures were sold at Christie's, Hill Court house sale, 13 December 1982, lot 11.
