ROBERT CROMPTON Regarded as one of the most famous players of his time, and a member of the celebrated Hardy-Crompton-Pennington Blackburn Rovers defence Robert Crompton was born in Blackburn in September 1879. An England regular for twelve years and held the record for the number of International caps (eventually surpassed by Billy Wright post-WW2) and for time spent with one League club, September 1896-May 1920.
