Lot Essay

During the 1930's Leech began a series of paintings of views of Regent's Park. The park was a short walk from No. 4 Steele's Studios in Hampstead where Leech rented a studio next door to Christopher Nevinson from 1928-1948.

Leech often painted images of the park, enjoying the reflections and murky shadows made by the overhanging trees (see D. Ferran, Exhibition Catalogue, William John Leech An Irish Painter Abroad, Dublin, National Gallery, 1996, p. 253).
