Lot Essay

Harry Windsor Fry was born in Torquay and studied at St. John's Wood School of Art and at the R.A. Schools. He served in the Great War and was wounded at the Battle of the Somme in 1916. Fry was known as a first-class swordsman and on one occasion finished as runner-up in an international competition in Paris.
