A Phalibois monkey mandolin player automaton
with papier mache head, open mouth, seated on a covered box with the instrument, under glass dome, pulling draw-string starts the action of the monkey nodding and strumming the mandolin alternately, with original dyed silk clothes (faded) in amongst arched foliage garden of silk and dried flowers and painted relief plaster rocky surmounts, on oval ebonised base containing single air musical movement and glass dome (period replacement), circa 1880 -15in. (38cm) high, (mouth action inoperative)
