A Gustav Vichy Automaton of a Negress Flower Seller magician
with dark brown kid face and chest, glass eyes, bone teeth, dark hair wig, composition hands, cane work basket containg three painted velvet parrot tulips containing a monkey's head, a dancing doll in original costume and a circling mouse, on a sphagnum moss ground, the figure and basket with original clothes, jewels and ribbons, the underskirt of an unusual silk brocade with Egyptian motifs, as the music plays she looks from side to side, nods her head, blinks her eyes as the tulips lift in turn displaying the toys underneath, the monkey head turns from side to side, moving his upper lips and blinking eyes, a paper tune sheet applied to the underside of the basket feature three airs comprising 'Marche de Louis XIII', 'Le rai des amoureux h??adilt' and 'La femme a Papa, Colonal Patha?', circa 1880 --26in. (66cm.) high (replaced red silk on sleeve cuff, eyelids and tiny hole in right cheek repaired)
