The de Portals were Huguenots mainly based in Hampshire and printers specialising in bank notes. The family firm was bought out by de la Rue about forty years ago. The following three lots are sold by Violet's grand-daughters.

with swivel neck, blue glass eyes, closed mouth, ears pierced into head, black hair wig on cork pate, bisque shoulder plate, kid body with gussetted elbows and straight pink kid legs, wearing wine coloured wool frock with apron, wool petticoat and underclothes --13in. (33cm.) high (tiny flake to corner of right eye)
