The unusual construction of the body of this doll and the fine carving of the legs and arms show the influence of late 18th century German dolls. The typical turned head and body of the English 17th and 18th century wood dolls has been retained but instead of roughly finished limbs painted white, they are delicately carved with elaborate and well functioning joints fitting flush with the body, the whole doll being painted in a rich flesh tone.
