SWISS. A RARE GOLD AND ENAMEL TRIPLE AUTOMATON VERGE WATCH
Unsigned, Case stamped PIG, No. 8348, circa 1800
With gilt-finished verge movement, mounted on top of the backplate is a very fine automaton scene in three-coloured gold, raised and chased, depicting the inside of a blacksmith's workshop, a gentleman stands beside the oven with his arm moving up and down, to his right his colleague is busy beating the iron into shape, at the far right a water fountain is simulating the moving flow of water, the ground also shows a dog, wheel and other objects from their work, the backgroud depicts a finely painted enamel scene from the workshop giving views of a bridge, river and surrounding countryside, white enamel dial with Roman numerals, gold hands, plain gold case with glazed back, case stamped and numbered
