SWISS. A FINE AND RARE 18K GOLD AND ENAMEL NECESSAIRE SNUFF BOTTLE WITH CONCEALED WATCH, MADE FOR THE CHINESE MARKET
Unsigned, circa 1820
The gold bottle of rectangular form, the central portion containing a finely painted enamelled scene in a lozenge depicting two young children, engraved gold decorative border with blue enamel masked by a black enamel background, the opposite side of the central portion also containing a finely enamelled image in a lozenge depicting a mother and child, with similarly decorated surround and borders, the hinged top decorated with black enamel and centred with decorative images of quiver and arrow, the opposite side featuring musical instruments, scores and doves, when opened revealing a set of gold tools needed for one's desire, the bottom portion of the bottle also set with black enamel decorated with images depicting floral motifs to one side and the opposite showing white doves in a basket, when a catch is pressed the hinged lid opens to reveal the concealed watch, with hinged verge movement, hinged white enamel dial with Roman numerals, translucent red enamel masking to the watch, the base of the bottle with secret hinged compartment set with amber, the spine and front of the bottle decorated with a base of yellow imperial enamel accented by gold and blue enamel motifs, unsigned
