Lot Essay

See Geneviève Le Duc, Porcelaine tendre de Chantilly au XVIIIe siècle, Paris, 1996, pp. 173, 177 for a pomegranate ormolu-mounted as a pot-pourri vase and cover and for shell designs after Juste-Aurèle Meissonier by the same manufacturer. The present two pots may have been intended as pot à jus in a dessert service or perhaps as jam pots and covers on a separate stand.
