COMPARATIVE LITERATURE:
F. Spitzer, La collection Spitzer: Antiquité, Moyen-âge, Renaissance, Paris, 1890 - 92, vol. II.

For a very similar triple-compartment cylindrical document case -- of the same construction and decoration -- which includes the scrolling rinceaux and dragon bodies terminating in vegetation on pounced fields, see Spitzer (op. cit., p. 213, no. 51 and plate XXV). The same motifs are evident on several other of the Spitzer leather pieces, including another document case and several of the knife cases, see Spitzer (op cit., plate XXV, no. 830 and pp. 205, 206 and 216).
