Each with raised divided rectangular plate within a molded frame with octagonal panelled sides and a further band, probably originally part of a boiserie scheme and consequently with later outer moldings

Descriptif du lot

This pair of mirrors reflect the Moorish heritage that continued to influence the decorative arts in Spain long after the defeat of the Muslims at Grenada in 1492. A virtually identical pair of mirrors, although smaller than this pair, is illustrated in G. Child, World Mirrors, London, 1990, p. 324, fig. 734, and catalogued as Carlos IV, circa 1790. A further octagonal Spanish mirror of similar character from the collection of Nelson Grimaldi Seabra was sold Christie's, New York, 22 October 2003, lot 81.
