on a trefoil base with scrolling foliate and C-scroll feet, one side chased with a vignette of a racing scene with two jockeys up, another side chased with a vignette of three horses, the third inscribed: "The Merchants Plate 1846 Won By Monarch", the palm tree centre stand surrounded by three dancing maidens in classical dress and supporting a fluted shaped circular fruit bowl with rocaille border, Messrs. Barnard, London 1845 - 22¾in. (57.75cm.), 152.25oz.
