Lot Essay

The condition, soiling and faint diesel smell confirm this pennant must originally have been taken from a captured submarine still flying it in situ and not from the flag locker as most examples offered appear to be. Interestingly this example is understood to have been captured from a Second World War submarine and may therefore have been a "lucky charm" kept by a crewman as a memento of the earlier conflict.
