Lot Essay

Built by the Smith's Dock Co. Ltd in 1930 for Watts, Watts & Co, Dartford survived bomb damage off the Mumbles light in April 1941 only to be sunk by a torpedo from U.124 in June 1942 with the loss of thirty men. The coal hulk she is shown with in this model is a converted steel-hulled full-rigged ship of approximately 1,200 tons.
