The launch which this model depicts was, on 28th April 1789 when the mutiny took place, crammed with nineteen men and limited provisions, resulting in just eight inches of freeboard when the tow line was cut. What then followed became as famous as the mutiny itself; over the next forty-six days and some 3,694 nautical miles, Bligh only lost one man - and that as a result of a native attack whilst stopping for provisions at the island of Tofua -- before completing one of the greatest feats of navigation in history.
