This image is the first in Maurer's series 'The Life of A Fireman', and here shows the Excelsior Company No. 2, 21 Henry Street, New York leaving their station. This voluntary company included some of the city's most prominent citizens, including, shown at the left joining his team, the publisher of Maurer's series, Currier.
