Lot Essay

John Irving was a Director of the Alliance Assurance Company Ltd. from 1824 to 1845. He was a Minister of Parliament for Bramber, West Sussex between 1806 and 1832 and then went on to serve as Minister of Parliament for Co. Antrim from 1837 to 1845. He amassed a personal fortune trading in the West Indies and the United States, where he travelled extensively. He was a partner in the banking firm of Reid Irving.
