Lot Essay

The two cases were designed in the antique manner popularised by Thomas Hope's Household Furniture and Interior Decoration, 1807. Its Egyptianised temple faâde is flanked by striated pilasters with Grecian palm-flowered acroteria, whilst its red-gadrooned dome is crowned by a bacchic pine-cone finial.
