Lot Essay

Mr. Fred Meijer of the Rijksbureau voor Kunsthistorische Documentatie believes, on the basis of a color transparency, that the present composition is possibly a late work by Cornelis de Heem. However, he does not exclude the possibility that the artist's son, David de Heem, may have been responsible for its execution (written communication, 30 March 2005).
