Lot Essay

Sudhir Patwardhan is a practicing radiologist and social activist. Though largely self-taught, Patwardhan is a keen observer of urban society. His figural works tend to depict the underclass in the motions of daily life though often imbued with a respectful dignity. The large-scale paintings are more emotionally reserved yet these realistic renderings are stark reminders of the social and economic inequities found in India.
