A SIOUX BEADED AND QUILLED HIDE TOBACCO BAG
of slightly tapering form, sinew sewn and lane-stitched in numerous shades of opaque and translucent beads, the central panel decorated on one side with a concentric rectangle, flanked by diamonds and forked motifs, the other side with similar motifs in a different arrangement, the top panel decorated on each side with a large cross and stylized feathers against the hide ground, bands enclosing eight-pointed stars down the sides and banded beadwork encircling the top, a triangular tab attached on one side, painted with yellow ochre and trimmed with beads and a panel of rawhide slats, wrapped with yellow, green, purple, and red-dyed porcupine quills, terminating in metal cones inserted with red-dyed feathers, a panel of similar quillwork with a bold zigzag pattern suspended below, hide fringe along the bottom
