The central section of this drawing is a study for Saint Francis and the Birds, 1935 (Tate Gallery: K. Bell, Stanley Spencer A Complete Catalogue of the Paintings, London, 1992, no. 164) and the left and right hand sections are studies for The Domestic Scenes, (Bell nos. 191-200) a series of nine works that Spencer painted during 1935-6.
