This painting is made up of a series of narrow panels that can be assembled in any number of different sequences. In leaving the arrangement of the image open-ended, the artist seems to assess the episodic and fragmentary nature of life. For the viewer, the freshness of the beach scene is emphasised by the fact that the canvasses can be changed around to his own design.
