Lot Essay

Mary Fedden's later still lives are characterised by their repetitive choice of subject matter. Familiar objects appear again and again in different groupings on different canvasses. The present picture depicts a Pommery mustard jar stuffed with foliage, the same jar can be seen in Marmalade and Mustard 1988 (see M. Gooding, Mary Fedden, Aldershot, 1995, p. 62).
