Of typical form, the base with inscription EN PRESENCE DU ROI LOUIS PHILIPPE 1ER CET OBELISQUE TRANSPORTE LOUQSOR EN FRANCE A ETE PRESSE SUR CE PIEDESTAL PAR MR LEBAS ENGENIEUR AUX APPLAUDISSEMENS D'UN PEUPLE IMMENSE LE 25 OCTOBRE 1836, also with an inscription in Latin, the square marble base with pierced gallery

Lot Essay

A model of the Luxor obelisk, presented in 1829 to Charles X (d.1830) by Egypt, was installed in the place de la Concorde, Paris, in 1836 by J.-B. Lebas.
