2° (most 550 x 400mm). 23 double-page engravings on guards, two of these folding. (Dampstain in margins reaching into image, a few plates creased, first plate with tear in margin, folding plates mounted together, creased and with tears at folds, each plate numbered on verso in red pencil.) 18th-century card wrappers (worn, spine defective, shelf-mark on upper cover).
A COLLECTION OF 23 FINE VIEWS OF ROME AND ITS BUILDINGS, IN WRAPPERS. All are strong impressions. Two of the plates, a floor plan and front elevation of St. Peter's, are by Mattheus Greuter, dated 1613. All others were published by Giovanni Giacomo Rossi and his heirs. A number of these are dated between 1635 and 1729; 6 are by Alessandro Specchi (Basilica Maggiore, Amphitheatre, Curia, the Monte Aureo and its buildings, two elevations of St. Peter's), 2 by Giovanni-Battista Falda (Sant' Angelo castle and bridge, Vatican), views of Caracalla's obelisk by Patigny, François Poilly, and Gomier, a view of the Piazza Navona and its buildings by Gomar Wouters, and others (Pantheon, construction of the piazza on the Strada del Popolo, Vatican crypt, Lateran Basilica and surrounding buildings, etc.).
