The Parisian Revue horticole commenced publication in 1829 with hand-coloured engravings, but employed chromolithographic illustrations from 1851 onwards. This collection of botanical watercolours by artists working on the magazine is very broad in range, depicting a large number of often extremely colourful species with a uniformly even level of technique. Included are 11 watercolours signed by Maubert, dated 1845-97, 4 signed by L. Constans, 1846-49, 19 by E. Godard, 1878-1892, 14 by L. Descamps-Sabourch, 1894-1900, 17 by Z.B. Guillot, 1899-1912, 8 by J. Eudes, c. 1902, and 5 by E. Mazelin, undated. A good proportion of species are named, and sometimes dated. In some cases, names and dates are on tissue paper stuck to the back of a drawing (some tissues are preserved loose).
