This is probably the painting that Frank Waller exhibited at the National Academy of Design in 1873 under the title On the Nile near Benisouef.

Born in New York City, Waller studied at the New York Free Academy. A founder and president of the Art Students League he also studied there with William Merritt Chase and exhibited with that institution from 1870 to 1887. He also exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and the Boston Art Club.

In addition to undertaking several studies of the Egyptian landscape, he also painted in Venice, upper New York State, New Hampshire and Bermuda.
