CHÂTEAU MOUTON ROTHSCHILD

Originally known as Château Brane-Mouton until is was purchased in 1853 by Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild at which point its name was
changed to Mouton-Rothschild. Having said that, it was occassionally
labelled simply as Mouton until the very late ninteeth century by
numerous Bordeaux négociants.

Failing to classify as a first growth in the 1855 classification it was not until the arrival of the young Baron Philippe (then 20 years old) in 1922 that someone from the family actually took an active and first hand interest in the property. Finally after more than 50 years of love, dedication and persistance, in 1973 Mouton-Rothschild was elevated to first growth status.

"Jousting with Latour '59 at the Hatchlands dinner in Surrey, it had a glowing immediacy of bouquet and fabulous intensity of flavour. A bravura performance in aid of the Russian National Orchestra. Most recently a perfet bottle at yet another superb Hardy Rodenstock event. Last tasted March 2001 ***** and will go on." MB, Vintage Wine
