The estate consists of 150 ha of land (of which 100 are arable), and right from the very start the varieties on it planted were Cabernet
Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Chardonnay, all originating from fine French terroir including Lafite-Rothschild, La Lagune and Corton Charlemagne.
Since 1969, Jean Leon has been producing its Gran Reserva from the "La Scala" vineyard, 8 hectares of the stoniest yet best-drained land and only produced in years when the climate is especially favourable. It is aged in French and American oak for 2 years and then for a minimum of 3 years in the bottle.
