CHÂTEAU GLORIA

There is no denying Gloria's instant appeal and accessibility; oft derided as "Bordeaux for Beginners," however, the wines age very well from the top vintages. Chateau Gloria generally drinks well with a plumy roundness through the awkward years when other wines are "shut down" and generally closed for business. Its two-tone personality is in part due to the unusual practice (for Bordeaux) of aging the wines in large oak foudres, half of which are new. The undervaluation of the Chateau, given the quality, make this selection from the great trio of 88-89-90 vintages perfect for luncheon claret, as well as breakfast and dinner at these prices.
