Marilyn Monroe often complained that she was not taken seriously as an actress - these notes give a revealing insight in to her feelings about this particular script and her career at this time in life, just a few months before her death.
The production for this film, a remake of the 1940 popular comedy My Favorite Wife (RKO) with Cary Grant and Irene Dunne, was plagued with controversy. The studio complained of Monroe's frequent absence from the set including, on the day of May 19, 1962 when she sang "Happy Birthday" President John. F. Kennedy in New York. Monroe was dismissed from the film the day after her thirty-sixth birthday. Her co-star Dean Martin refused to finish the film with another actress. After intense legal negotiations Monroe was re-signed with a substantially higher salary to finish the film just four days before her death on 5th August, 1962. Although the film remains unfinished some speculate that sufficient footage exists to complete the film with some amendments to the story line.
