MONCK, George, 1st Duke of Albemarle (1608-1670). Two documents signed ('George Monck') addressed 'To all Officers & sould[i]ers & others whome these may concerne', Dalkeith and Edinburgh, 5 February 1654/5 and 14 July 1657, in each case providing a laissez-passer for Patrick Smyth, Laird of Braco, in the first instance to travel to Orkney 'with his servants, two Horses (one exceeding the value in the Proclamation,) Sworde, and necessaries', in the second case to travel to London, 'Hee doing nothing prejudiciall to his Highnesse & the Com[m]onwealth', together two pages, folio (some staining and wear).
