RILKE, Rainer Maria (1875-1926). Autograph letter signed to [Austrian playwright Heinrich] Teweles, Villa Waldfrieden, Schmargendorf bei Berlin, 10 December 1898, in German, one page, 8vo.

Rilke has been taking Teweles' silence as a refusal [presumably of a work submitted for his approval at the Landestheater in Prague], whilst intending to find out for sure during a visit to Prague at Christmas: this visit having been postponed, he asks Teweles 'die dunkle Vermuthung zu bestätigen' [to confirm his dark supposition], adding: 'das Stuck hat das Schicksal seines Namens' [the piece has the fate of its name'. He sends friendly greetings, and asks whether his 'Uber den Monolog etc' has arrived safely.
