Two autograph letters signed, the first to Thomas Smith, MP, London, 3 February 1837, declining an invitation to attend a meeting, as the House of Lords is sitting, and 'Besides there cannot be a Wedding or a Christening without my presence!!', the second to the 7th Earl of Elgin, London, 20 March 1841, avowing a general acquaintance with the Earl's services to his country, 'but of course not with the details thereof, any more than of those of the violence and injustice with which you were treated by Bonaparte', together four pages, 8vo, envelopes; with a secretarial letter to Mr Murray Smythe, promising to present a petition to the House of Lords; and a franked cover; (remnants of guards).
