London: Ballantyne, Hanson & Co. for William Heinemann, 1898. 8° (191 x 127mm), title printed in red and black, 32-page publisher's catalogue bound in at the end (endpapers and first and last leaves a little spotted, occasional light spotting on a few other leaves). Original light blue cloth, upper board and spine lettered in gilt, upper board with floral design in blind, lower board with 'wh' monogram in blind (spine slightly darkened and a little leant, extremities very lightly rubbed). Provenance: Carl-Bertel Nathhorst.
FIRST EDITION. THE FIRST PUBLICATION IN BOOK FORM OF THE TURN OF THE SCREW AND COVERING END. The Turn of the Screw was first published in Collier's Weekly and revised slightly for book publication, and Covering End was first published in this edition (which was of 1,500 copies).
