MALAVASIA, Carlo Cesare, Count (1616-93). Felsina pittrice vite di pittori bolognesi. Bologna: heirs of Domenico Barbieri, 1678. 2 volumes, 4° (221 x 157mm), half title in vol. I, divisional titles, woodcut portraits, headpieces, culs-de-lampe, initials (spotted, hinges split in vol. I, some mainly marginal dampstaining to a few leaves, one neat tear repaired in vol. II). 19th-century half-backed speckled calf, gilt spine, speckled edges (rubbed at extremities, wormholes to head and foot of spine, head of spine of vol. I worn). Provenance: Heinrich Wölfflin (1864-1945, owner's inscription dated 1902, bookstamp). Interesting association copy, once belonging to Wölfflin, the famous Swiss art historian, who was Professor of Art History at the University of Berlin from 1901-1912. This copy with the reading vol. I p.471 "ferace sempre idea del gran Rafaelle", BMC 17th-Century Italian, p. 522; Brunet III, 1349. (2)
