[PENRY, John (1559-93)]. An Exhortation vnto the Gouernours, and People of ... Wales, to labour earnestly, to haue the Preaching of the Gospell planted among them. [East Molsey: Robert Waldegrave], 1588. 8°, final leaf, I2, is a cancel (worming in the lower fore-corners throughout, repaired as far as D, somewhat browned). Sprinkled calf by G. Murton (lightly rubbed). Provenance: William Maskell (signature and bookplate) -- Thomas Edward Watson (bookplate; by descent to the present owners). Second edition, second issue (but printed in the same year as the first) of probably the second Marprelate tract printed at Penry's own surreptitious press which he had set up with Robert Waldegrave. Penry used these notorious Puritan tracts to attack the bishops and clergy, in this case those in Wales, and as a result was executed five years later in London. STC 16906.
