SNELLING, Thomas. Snelling on the Coins of Great Britain, France and Ireland. London: J. Thane, 1763-69. 7 parts in one volume, 2° (332 x 234mm), 58 engraved plates and 10 illustrations in the text, 2 portraits, one in sanguine, of the author and a folding plate inserted (small hole in E1 and F1 of the first part with slight loss of text, a little browning). Contemporary calf gilt (rebacked with original spine preserved, head of spine and corners repaired, a little rubbed). These parts were originally issued as separate works with a general title (as above) added. The book has been interleaved by Colonel William Durrant whose fine collection of Anglo-Saxon and early post-Conquest coins was sold in 1847. The general title calls for seventy copper plates. Including the illustrations in the text the total number of engravings in the above copy amounts to sixty-eight, although nothing appears to be missing. For this reason the volume is sold not subject to return.
