The Japanese script on the case reads: 92 [1932] Type Square Style Binoculars.

An extensive review of the Japanese optical industry and Nippon Kogaku is given in the reference cited. Nippon Kogaku began making periscopes in 1918. Production continued after the war when Nikon manufactured similar instruments for construction surveying.
