Lot Essay

Ginger Rogers, born Virginia Katherine McMath on July 16, 1911 in Independence, Missouri, made her film debut at the age of 16, playing opposite Claudette Colbert in "Young Man of Manhattan". This was the start of what became one of the most celebrated acting careers of her time. With over 70 films, including 10 produced along side Fred Astaire and an Academy Award for Best Actress for her leading role in "Kitty Foyle", Ginger Rogers has become synonymous with style and elegance.
