Lot Essay

Work by William Stephen Coleman is instantly recognisable, because he is so ubiquitous in Victorian decorative art and design. In addition to painting easel pictures, he was an illustrator, and designed many tiles and plates for Minton's Art Pottery. Pieces by him can be seen in Glasgow Art Gallery and the Victoria and Albert Museum.
