Compare the current sculpture to a very similar piece illustrated in The Buddha in the Dragon Gate, Buddhist sculpture of the 5th-9th centuries from Longmen, China, the Etnografisch Museum Antwerpen, 22 March to 27 June 2001, pp.98-99 and front cover. The Buddha seats in padmasana, both hands in abhaya-varada mudra gestures of protection-invitation and compassion. He wears the triple robe, the samkakshika fastened at the breast, both falling in cascade of folds in the Northern Wei Longmen style.
