Lot Essay

It is often been suggested although never been proved, that the decoration is after a design by Cornelis Pronk (1691-1759). This later is known for having been under contract with the Dutch East India Company from 1734 to 1737, for which he made "four series of drawings over three and a half years" according to Jörg, Pronk Porcelain, p.14. As specialist, Dr. Jörg does not include the parrot among those discussed, neither does he eliminate the possibility that it might have been a design executed by Pronk for private customers.
